HELP SPREAD THE WORD AZ!!!

Friday, March 5, 2010

So.....

Tis the season for festivals, albums, and music, music, music......just to keep you up to speed, Hartbreaks, Dopple Gang, along with myself, have been really making an effort to bring the noise at Downtime, especially in regards to new music. In case you didn't know, or if you're not as nerdy as the rest of us, being on top of the music game is a huge, huge priority, new ish comes out almost every second and if you sleep on a dope track or a mix, than you are officially a biter.....So, me being the nice guy that I am, am going to drop some science on yo' asses. First up I have this really amazing Starkey mix done for Planet Mu which is the label he regularly release dopeness on. Round two sees us with a track by Portland native Freddy Todd, I seriously jock this dude's production chops.....he's no joke. So, seriously, check this track called Accidental Side Effects, cop it if you haven't already. Last up to Bat is this dude, Taz Buckfaster. Yeah, I know, if you're up on The Dubstep tip, you've 60% sure have heard of him. I'll have to say though, 20 red is straight Dilla hip hop.....awesome. So, anyways......cop this ish and don't say I never give you nothin'

Peace,
Ellery...

Exclusive Downtime Mix

Woah, this picture is a trip..... I have a tendency to get a little in depth when it comes to music I drop. Speaking of music and trips, I recently dropped a set @ Downtime that I was feelin' in particular. It kinda started off as glitch and shit that I like to practice on and take into different directions, yeah....that lasts for about two seconds...I dunno, for some reason I've been on this whole Swizz Beatz tip and Jay-Z too. So peep it, Download it, Trade it and bump it loud, stay tuned for more ill shit comin' and eat yo' fruits and vegetables!

Dark Time Sunshine - Believeyoume

When 730am rolls around and you're still walking and talking like a man you tend to make decisions straight from the heart. So as i returned to my house after a few casinos, Absurd's party, a friendly house, and an early B&G run at 5nDiner I began to meditate on my well rounded and extremely satisfying evening. I did so while returning to the album i began my day with and immediately came to the realization that i had to immediately post this music up on our blog. Dark Time Sunshine's bio tells tales of "2 loggers from Northern Ireland" meeting up and making "music composed for the sole purpose of courting dames who will later give birth to snobs ,archers ,zombie lovers ,& rappers." At least that's what everyone at Fake Four Inc. would have you believe. However as I understand the situation, Dark Time consists of our friend Micheal Martinez (Onry Ozzborn of Grayskul) under the moniker Cape Cowen and Chicago, IL producer Zavala. I had heard tracks from this album in passing, but was hooked when a co-worker at universatilemusic.com posted a 3 song video on the blog. Immediately I delved into the entirety of this 9 song facemelter and have not stopped since. Now let it be known that I'm a huge fan of all the work Grayskul has done, and having heard Onry's previous solo work I've gotta say I'm thoroughly impressed with these cats ability to consistently progress with each release. I could go on and on about this album, but as I've expressed in previous posts I in no way intend to be a critic. So with that being said i leave you this Super Bowl Sunday morning with this banging ass video and a full album download courtesy of Fake Four Inc. Please enjoy responsibly, goodmorning and goodnight.

Night Fuse

Well it was another successful week at Downtime. In fact from the outside of that historic old house on 5th street one would have imagined the interiour to be filled with celebrities of all types. The flashes of diffused light coming from within the dimly lit bar could be seen brightly from the street, and upon further investigation we found Fernando of NightFuse.com capturing the local celebrity that is the Downtime clientele. Our friends over at Night Fuse can be found all over town capturing the freshest faces in the illest places, and there's a damn good chance that you might find yourself on their smooth ass website. Go check them out now, we won't even get upset if you navigate away from this page... We know we'll see you again.

Four Tet - "Love Cry"

Kieran Hebden is certainly a busy man. Since his early 90's work with post-rock outfit Fridge, Hebden has developed an impressive musical resume under both his birth name as well as the moniker Four Tet. Taking the time to remix heavyweights such as Radiohead, touring the globe performing solo DJ sets, and even delving into improvisational free jazz with avant garde drummer Steve Reid has kept Hebden away from a full length Four Tet album for nearly 5 years. Of course there was the 2008 4 song EP Ringer and last years secret surprise collaboration with Burial, but late last year we heard news of a new full length Four Tet album entitled There Is Love In You and gosh dang it were we all so excited. The release was preceded by the hypnotically appealing single "Love Cry" which somehow manages to make 9 minutes and 13 seconds feel like a few short breaths. Since I have not yet been able to put this track on without involuntarily dancing or wanting to press the little repeat1 button in the left hand corner of my iTunes screen, I figured it best to share it with you in hopes you catch that same seductive feeling. Enjoy my friends and lovers...

Listen & Download
Four Tet -"Love Cry"

Epilogue - Eventually I was able to get past constantly pressing repeat and moved on to listen to the rest of the album and can honestly say I'm hooked. This is definitely some of Hebden's most mature work as Four Tet yet. However I refuse to use this blog to be a music "critic" so I'll just have faith that you'll accept my recommendation and check out the rest of There Is Love In You...

Downtime: A Blog (About A Night At The Lost Leaf)

Whats up world,
2010 looks to be a promising year in music and the arts, and Arizona's music scene is definitely no exception. We saw some of the best musical displays in years come from the middle of a near great depression. As we all know, hard times inevitably lead to a creative renaissance in which we all learn to use the coping mechanisms found in the arts to keep our heads above water as we push along into better and better days. I'm fairly certain I can speak for everyone involved with Downtime when I say that finding those gems of music, both new and old, which remind you of the power such an art-form has on the human condition is an amazing feeling. Being able to share those gems with our friends, acquaintances, and the rest of the motherloving world is even more amazing.

Since this year is undoubtedly going to be epic in all aspects of life, we decided to do are part in helping to document it in the form of this blog. Now in addition to sharing the experiences of our local scene with one another, we get to share with all of you our favorite music, film, art, fashion, and whatever else we find culturally relevant. We're excited as shit about this, and we hope you are too...

Before I leave this first post I've gotta plug everything so it's outta the way and we can move on to other things... Just one last friendly reminder that we have an amazing Tuesday night at The Lost Leaf in downtown Phoenix every week with residents Ellery, Hartbreaks, Dopple Gang, and all sorts of special guests. So here we go...

Make sure to find us on Facebook and please suggest that your friends become fans as well...

Find us on Twitter...

And make sure to spread the word about our night and come party with us every Tuesday. That's it. Relatively painless right....

Might as well go ahead and start the giving. This last Tuesday at Downtime: A Night At The Lost Leaf the homie STLB 3 of the Dopple Gang crew gave me his newest mix of 45 funk joints. Since i just uploaded it I figured I'd let you in on the jam since he only had 5 copies the other night.
